Dentures

The loss of teeth can be devastating. Once the teeth are gone the bone structure that supported them begins to deteriorate. This can lead to a collapse of the facial structure and advanced signs of aging.

If you are missing one or more teeth and would like to smile again with comfort and confidence, denture procedures are performed by our doctor for patients in our region to restore a healthy, natural smile and lifestyle.

What are dentures?

Dentures are false teeth. They are made of acrylic resin or resin and metal to replace your missing teeth.

Dentures

Partial dentures are dentures that replace only a few missing teeth. Dentures that replace a complete set of missing teeth are called complete dentures. Dentures that are made and placed after the remaining teeth are removed and the tissues have healed are called conventional dentures. Dentures that are placed immediately after the removal of the remaining teeth are called immediate dentures. A denture that fits over a small number of remaining natural teeth or implants is called an over denture.

Your consultation for dentures

During your initial consultation, our dentist will discuss your particular condition, your expectations, and the probable outcome of your treatment. You may be shown several before and after treatment photographs of patients having similar conditions, and you will receive an explanation of your treatment. Before and after photos may be taken of the area to be treated to document your results.

Are there other options to replace my teeth?

Dental implants replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth. We also use them to support a bridge which can eliminate the need for a removable partial denture. Dental implants can provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable. There are several medical factors to be considered and discussed with our dentist during your consultation.

Getting dentures

Your procedure begins by making a mold of your bite. This provides our doctor with the exact measurements we will need to create your new teeth. Depending on your needs, surgery may be required to extract some teeth and improve the foundation that will support your dentures. Once your gums are stable, you can proceed with the fitting of your replacement teeth and we will fine tune the fit and the colors.

Who are the best candidates for dentures?

If you are missing one, several or all of your teeth, dentures may be one solution that can help you. The best candidates for dentures are in good general health, have adequate bone in their jaw to support their dentures, and have healthy gum tissues that are free of periodontal disease.

How will I feel after my denture procedure?

After our dentist performs your denture procedure, you may experience some degree of discomfort. This will vary from patient to patient depending on the fit of their denture. Dentures can cause some temporary speech issues. Sores and irritation can occur and are usually caused by poor oral hygiene and not removing the dentures as needed. Dentures can reduce your chewing efficiency. In some cases dentures can cause a reduction in the taste of food.

Why choose dentures?

Dentures can replace missing teeth and correct speech and chewing problems. Dentures provide safe, long term tooth replacements that strengthen the muscles that control expression and require the support of your teeth. They can also correct pronunciation problems associated with missing teeth. Most of all, patients choose dentures to provide a great smile and restore a more natural appearance.
