Facial Liposuction
Bothered by excess fat around your cheeks, chin and neck?
Your
face says a lot about you as a person. In many ways, it provides others with
a lasting impression of who you are, how you feel and what you think.
Diet
and exercise can help many areas of the body, but nothing seems to affect
those fatty deposits in your cheeks, chin, jawline or neck. These areas don't
usually respond to diet and exercise. They can also obscure who you really
are. Now, Facial Liposuction can provide you with a solution.
Facial
Liposuction can make a dramatic change in the way you look by removing the
excess fat from your cheeks, chin and neck.
What is Facial Liposuction?
Liposuction
surgery is performed to actually remove unwanted localized deposits of fat
cells from the body. Liposuction was originally designed for body contouring.
Your Liposuction surgeon uses a special tube called a cannula. The cannula
is inserted through a tiny incision placed in an inconspicuous location on
the face or neck. Using a suction syringe or pump attached to the cannula,
the fat cells are extracted. The result is a resculpting of bulging areas
into more attractive and more youthful facial contours.
In
younger patients, Facial Liposuction may be done alone. In older patients,
it may produce optimal results when combined with a facelift, browlift, eyelid
or nose surgery. It is often performed with the addition of chin or cheek
implants for better definition.
Who are the best candidates for facial liposuction?
Most
men and women who have localized facial fatty deposits are good candidates for
Facial Liposuction provided they:
Are in good health.
Have fat deposits disproportionate to the rest of their face.
Have good skin elasticity.
Have realistic expectations.
Is the fat removal permanent?
Yes! After puberty, we do not create many new fat cells. When you gain weight,
you expand the fat cells that you have. Facial Liposuction permanently removes
fat cells to improve your facial contour.
Should you gain weight after liposuction, it goes to the fat cells that remain
in your body. The localized fatty deposits that existed prior to liposuction
can no longer balloon up out of proportion to the surrounding areas.
Will I need a second procedure?
One
procedure is usually sufficient. However, some patients require a fine-tuning
procedure at a future date.
Is Facial Liposuction for you?
If excess fatty tissue in your face or neck is bothering you, Facial Liposuction
may be your answer. Your doctor can help you determine what the best treatment
will be to obtain your desired results.
How will I look after surgery?
The changes following Facial Liposuction can be dramatic, as illustrated in
the photographs above. The use of smaller cannulas allow the fibrous connections
between your skin and body to remain. These connections will contract over time.
As a result, excessive neck skin folds are so rare that many patients avoid
the necessity for surgical skin removal by having excellent results with Facial
Liposuction alone.
What will my recovery be like?
One or two small stitches may be needed to close the tiny incisions. You will
wear a snug elastic dressing over the treated area for a few days, and you may
be advised to wear it at night for a few weeks. You will go home after the procedure
and rest for at least 24 hours. Mild pain relievers may be needed along with
cold packs for a few days. Most patients resume normal activities after 2 -
4 days.
