Dermal Fillers - Lumberton, NC

As we age, fine lines, wrinkles and loss of volume begin to appear as the underlying collagen and elastin fibers begin to break down and wear out. While this breakdown is part of the natural aging process, it can result from excessive sun exposure, squinting, frowning, smoking and smiling.

Fortunately, a variety of injectable fillers have exploded on the scene that restore lost volume, improve facial wrinkles, and stimulate collagen production to provide a more pleasing youthful appearance. These FDA-approved light, medium, and heavy dermal filler treatments are performed by our medical provider for patients in our region to improve fine lines, wrinkles and age related volume deficits with no allergic reaction, no downtime and minimal side effects.

Which dermal filler is best for me?

Our doctor will examine the area to be treated, assess your goals and recommend the appropriate filler for your individual needs. The doctor will explain the expected amount of filler required for your desired results and how long you can expect your filler to last.

How do dermal fillers work?

Most dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid in the form of crystal-clear gel. They are injected into the skin to create volume, plumping and lifting, resulting in a healthy and vital appearance.   Unlike other fillers these light, medium and heavy fillers can be supplied in different densities. Each one is designed for a specific treatment area. This lets your doctor use a mixture of densities to help you achieve your desired appearance.

What areas respond the best to dermal fillers?

Fine lines in the forehead, “crow’s feet”, wrinkles between the eyes, on the cheeks and at the corners of the mouth, and deeper wrinkles on the cheeks and chin all respond well to dermal fillers. Lip enhancement or a “pouting” lip can be achieved using dermal fillers. This treatment also improves the vertical or “Smoker’s Lines” along the edges of the lip.

Are they safe?

Yes. Most of today’s dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid which occurs naturally in the body and therefore it also dissolves naturally with time and is integrated into your body’s tissues. Over time, the molecules dissolve and turn into water as they depart without leaving any trace in your body.

How long do dermal fillers last?

It varies from individual to individual and treatment site. The length of time your treatment will last depends on many factors such as your skin, your lifestyle and your age. While the average lip treatment only lasts for about six months due to higher blood flow, other treatment area results can last up to two years. The great thing about dermal fillers is that you can replenish your natural beauty whenever you feel the need. A touch-up can be performed any time you like after the previous treatment.

What are treatments with dermal fillers like?

Our medical provider performs the treatment by injecting the dermal filler under your skin. The whole procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Pain relief is usually not needed, but many patients like the added comfort provided when we apply an anesthetic cream about an hour before the injections.

How will I look after my treatment?

Following your injections, normal activities can be resumed immediately. Discomfort is minimal. The treatment site may have a little swelling, which may last a few hours. There may be some slight bruising which can be covered with make-up. Depending on the area treated, correction usually lasts from six to nine months with some new products lasting up to twenty-four months. If you have been wondering how to get rid of your wrinkles but aren’t ready for surgery, dermal fillers may be the answer.
