Voluma - Lumberton, NC

As we age, the underlying tissues in our cheeks lose volume. As this happens the overlying skin begins to droop. This in turn leads to those deep creases that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) and to hanging jowls. Many of our patients that come in for treatment of the nasolabial folds actually need volume replenishment in the cheek or midface area. To combat these signs of aging, Juvederm Voluma XC treatments are performed by our medical providers for patients in our region.

Juvederm Voluma® XC

Juvederm Voluma XC is the latest FDA approved advancement in filler injections used to improve the appearance of age-related volume loss in the cheek area. It is also the first injectable, hyaluronic acid-based treatment to contain lidocaine which provides a more comfortable treatment.

How does Juvederm Voluma XC work?

Juvederm Voluma XC was designed to provide a more effective, longer-lasting, extra lift that is required to correct volume loss in the midface/cheek area of the face.

Juvederm Voluma XC does exactly what the name implies. Think of it like re-inflating a balloon. Our doctor uses Voluma for patients in our region to increase the volume under the skin which in turn fills and lifts their sagging skin. After treatment, the overlying skin is pulled up and remains smooth while providing a more natural correction to the nasolabial folds and a lift to the lower face.  We have found that Juvederm Voluma XC  flows easily and consistently, allowing us to provide a fuller, more youthful appearance.

What are the limitations of Juvederm Voluma XC?

Unfortunately, Juvederm Voluma XC is not a permanent solution. The effects of the treatments can last up to two years. Early studies indicate men and women both like Juvederm Voluma XC since it has lidocaine, requires fewer visits and lasts longer.

Can I have Juvederm Voluma XC treatments if I take other drugs?

Most patients can usually be treated with Juvederm Voluma XC regardless of other drugs used. However, it is important to let your doctor know what drugs you are taking during your consultation before undergoing any medical procedure.

Your Juvederm Voluma XC consultation

During your consultation with our physician you will discuss your concerns and the changes that you’d like to make in your appearance. The doctor will explain the treatments available to you, review the procedures, and point out the risks and limitations involved. Together you will decide the best treatment option for you.

What is a Juvederm Voluma XC treatment like?

Treating volume loss with Juvederm Voluma XC is a simple and safe procedure and the entire treatment takes about 10 minutes.

Our medical provider performs volume loss treatments using Juvederm Voluma XC in our office. Using a tiny needle, Juvederm Voluma XC is injected, very precisely, into your midface or cheek. Because Juvederm Voluma XC contains lidocaine the pain associated with the treatment is minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. No sedation is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately. You can even drive yourself home or back to the office.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects from Juvederm Voluma XC are moderate (uncomfortable), and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. The most common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps and itching. You may experience some slight temporary bruising at the treatment site. This can be minimized by avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, omega-3s, salmon and red wine prior to your appointment or you may cover it with make-up.
