UltraPulse - Allentown, PA

We were all born with smooth, baby-soft skin. As we go through life, skin is subject to numerous experiences that leave it less than perfect. For many of us, our first exposure to skin problems is with chicken pox in childhood, then acne scars in our teen years.

Some of us are lucky enough to escape these hazards, although time, heredity and gravity are still doing their part to create fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the mouth and eyes. Over-exposure to the sun, alcohol use, and smoking are all known to significantly accelerate the development of these natural signs of aging. Other surface imperfections, such as moles, warts, superficial skin cancers and skin tags also may develop over time to mar the skin.

UltraPulse® Laser Skin Resurfacing

UltraPulse laser resurfacing is performed by our doctor for patients in our region to remove surface imperfections and dramatically reduce lines and wrinkles. Using the UltraPulse CO2 laser with a computer controlled handpiece, we can gently remove sun-damaged, aging skin, layer by layer, helping to protect and stimulate regeneration of the deeper, healthy skin producing smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin.

The laser uses a very high energy beam of light to vaporize scarred, lined, wrinkled, and other skin imperfections. Laser light penetrates to a very precise, controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, and reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems. Because the laser is gentle, comfort both during and after the procedure is improved, and helps provide you with a more rapid return to your normal routine.

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery with the UltraPulse

The UltraPulse laser is also used to combat drooping eyelids and to remove the sagging under-eye bags that don't seem to go away with a good night's rest. These procedures are called laser assisted blepharoplasty. The laser is used to remove the excess skin of the upper eyelid that causes it to droop. Because the laser seals blood vessels as it touches them, there is less bleeding, swelling and bruising than with traditional blepharoplasty, helping to reduce healing time. For the lower eyelids, the laser is used inside the lower eyelid, transconjunctivally (across the conjunctiva) to make a small, bloodless incision. The fat pads causing the "bags" are removed, no skin incision is made, and no stitches are required for this procedure. The skin around the eyes bearing fine lines and crow's feet can then be resurfaced during the same procedure to complete surgery of the periorbital area.

What are the benefits of UltraPulse laser resurfacing?

Lasers cause less scarring, bleeding and bruising.

  • Lasers provide a level of control that is difficult to achieve with other treatments.
  • With lasers our physician can immediately visualize the effect of the treatment.
  • Laser resurfacing is more predictable than other forms of treatment.
  • Laser surgery requires shorter recovery time than traditional treatments.

Rapid, Safe, and Gentle Resurfacing with the UltraPulse Laser

UltraPulse laser skin resurfacing is rapid and gentle. Because the treatment is bloodless and does not involve chemicals that cover the surface of the skin, we are able to clearly see exactly how much tissue to treat and remove during the procedure.

After our doctor performs your UltraPulse procedure, for the first few days your skin will weep as new collagen is formed to rebuild the skin from the bottom up. Some crusting may develop as a new skin surface is formed. This new skin will have a reddish quality which fades over the next several weeks.

Post-procedure discomfort is usually minor. Thick ointments are applied liberally for the first few days to protect the new skin, followed by moisturizers with sun block or Aloe Vera lotion. Make-up can usually be resumed after 7 - 10 days. The effect of the treatment develops over a few months following the procedure and can be expected to last for several years. The results of any cosmetic procedure can be expected to fade over time, at which time the procedure can be repeated.
